Direction: Gregg Araki
Country: USA
Gregg Araki, the director of Mysterious Skin (2004) and Kaboom (2010), returns with I Want Your Sex, a frustrating, pedestrian comedy that awkwardly mixes criminal investigation, satire of the contemporary art world, and sexual power games. Despite its provocative premise, the film struggles to turn its transgressive impulses into anything genuinely daring or entertaining.
Olivia Wilde kills it here as a manipulative dominatrix and artist fraud, while Cooper Hoffman is just ok as a fresh out of school who falls for his provocative boss, discovering new pleasures. None of them were able to save the film from vulgarity and boredom.
The director’s ten-year old project as a comedic riff of 50 Shades of Grey promised much but delivered little. Araki co-wrote it and co-produced with Karley Sciortino, a former Vogue sex columnist and author of Slutever.
